Saturday we got the house more or less straightened up, and went to pick up the kids at the airport. Only one of us was allowed to meet them at the gate, so I waited at the baggage claim area. We had dinner on the way home. Sunday was a mishmash of cookie-baking, laundry, kid-herding, and dog walking. We also went to a friend's house for a tree-trimming party. This description caused confusion for my daughter - she couldn't understand why someone would prune a Christmas tree. I have done almost no Christmas shopping. I have no idea about what the kids want. I never have any idea what to get my folks, or my in-laws. (David and I struck a deal - we're going to splurge on a new monitor, so no need to buy each other stuff. Whew!) I just go to the mall and wait for inspiration to strike. My Christmas cards aren't even done yet. I kind of hate this part of the year. Eh, it'll pass, soon enough.
I have discovered a big field a couple of blocks from the house, and I've been taking Dolly there in the mornings. I can let her off the leash, so she can run around and stop and go as she likes. If it's light enough, I'll throw a stick for her, too. She loves to fetch the stick. Depending on the timing, I get to see the sunrise, too.
I had terrible aches and pains last week, all of which disappeared overnight on Saturday. My neck muscles and sinuses hurt so bad driving home from the airport, I thought I might barf. Sunday morning, a-okay. No idea why. It's not relief from stress, I assure you. I've been wound tighter than a watch lately.
I know I left you hanging last week: we came in second in the company Star Search. The less said about that, the better. Furthermore, I got "second runner up" for my door, even though I specifically did not enter the contest. These people have boundary issues. I think I'll put a note on my online calendar for next December: don't decorate the door, and avoid the fun committee at all costs. Ho ho ho.
