Back at work. We're using a laptop at home, and it's hard to type anything on it - the keyboard's smaller and laid out differently. I type poorly enough on the regular type. Still, I'm glad I can check email. The regular computer is tucked in our bedroom, for lack of space elsewhere.

We plan to use one of the kids' rooms as an office (when they're not here), but we still need to get a desk. I was in Pier One before Christmas, and they had some pretty desks. We'll see what we come up with.

We noticed that our water heater produced remarkably little hot water, so we asked the rental company to have someone look at it. He came out and turned the temperature up on Thursday. On Saturday, we discovered that the tank was leaking, so another guy came out. He said the tank would have to be replaced. Sunday, coming home from visiting on Christmas, we discovered that the leaking had continued apace, and several things got wet. Monday, David was rearranging boxes in the basement when he discovered that water had gone in another direction, and gotten a few other things wet. The water heater was replaced today. I'm glad David's home on leave to handle these things - I'd be mighty ticked if I had to take time off of work for it.

When we started putting things in the basement, I tried to keep cardboard boxes off the floor, against the possibility of water. My efforts were soon overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff. (I lived in a house when I was 14 where the sewers backed up after severe rains, so whenever I see basements, I see potential water damage. I'm happy to report that my yarn stash is in plastic tubs. Yes, that's plural. Hush. There are three tubs of fabric, too.) David might be able to get some pallets, which would help. And, presumably, the new heater won't leak and it won't ever be an issue again. Right? Right.
