Well, dang. I started an entry or two, but never got around to posting. Sorry about that. Not that I have anything interesting to say now.....

David is scheduled to deploy in a couple of weeks. There's a pre-deployment ceremony tonight. I'm going to go just to keep David company. It irritates him that the battalion wastes the soldiers' personal time in this way.

Last week, the local arts council asked our SCA group for help filming a promotional film. So on Saturday, David and a few other guys got dressed up in garb and swords and chased an Indiana Jones-type character around downtown Fayetteville. They had a blast. Afterwards, still in costume, they went to lunch at a downtown restaurant. The waitress asked David for his autograph. He used to tell people he wasn't an actor, but long ago gave up. He just asked her name and autographed the paper she brought him. Too cute!

As for the coming deployment....now that I know what it's like for him to be gone almost a year, I'm not as optimistic as last time. I know it will be tough. I'll be okay, though, and I will keep myself occupied while he's gone. I refuse, on principle, to spend time worrying about his safety.

I don't have plans yet for activities once David's deployed. I may take a pottery class, I may paint the bedroom. There's no telling. The dog will get a lot more attention. I may even get the basement cleaned up. Stranger things have happened.
