2006-04-06 - 10:00 a.m. I got good news yesterday - David's on the E-7 list. That means he's been recommended for promotion, which further means that he will be promoted at some point in the future. It also means that he will stay in the Army another three years (I think). Contrary to popular belief, that is a good thing. He loves the Army, he loves being a soldier and a paratrooper, and he loves his soldiers. He doesn't enjoy being separated from me, but he likes going on deployment. It's just part of the deal. I'm glad, too. As long as he's active duty, we keep all our benefits, like my free medical care, and our cute little house. And of course, the longer he serves, the better his eventual retirement pay will be. His mom called me yesterday to say she'd found his name ont he E-7 list in the Army Times. I went to the store to get a copy, but they had the latest one, and I think it was in last week's issue. So I sent David an email letting him know that his mom had called and maybe he should check into it. He wrote back to say that he'sd known for three weeks, and was planning to surprise me with it. Grr! I'm torn between being happy for him, and mad at him for keeping it from me. Oh, well, what can you do? I also got some iffy news - one of my bosses is retiring in three months. He's a great guy, and I wish him the best. It took them a long time to fill that position (when they got him). Besides running the asthma project, he's the director of continuing medical and pharmacy education. I don't know how they're going to handle an absence that serious. It's not like someone else can just pick up the slack. We do have recruiting problems here, both in salary and of course, location. Not too many people clamoring to move to Fayetteville. The reason that I'm a little concerned is because of my friend's experience. She's the program assistant for the other program I work for, and she got a new boss who is an ass, not to put it too strongly. I like working here, I like the people I work with, and I'd like to keep it that way if I can. Fingers crossed. P.S. - Happy Birthday to my best cousin, Cathy. Love ya!
