2006-06-28 - 4:02 p.m. I got that job, and I start next week. I'd have been highly insulted if they hadn't picked me (especially since I'd have to train the new employee!). In related news, I sat through my last teleconference for the asthma team yesterday. Hallelujah! How I hated it. The exericse regimen is suffering these days, between the heat-n-humidity, and the apparent tenderness of my lower back. Near-constant afternoon thunderstorms keep closing the pool, so no water aerobics lately. Today is clear, so I'll call and see if they're open today. Last night, after supper, I took Dolly out for her walk. It was almost 8 pm and had finally started to cool off a little bit. We'd been out about 30 minutes when it started to rain. We got soaked on the way home, but it was nice and cool. There was thunder off in the distance, but nothing threatening in our area. We went over to the golf course, though someone appeared to be on the links so we skirted around to the other side of the course. I'm nervous about getting busted for trespassing. The course is posted here and there "No pedestrians" but I noticed that the soldiers run and march on the cart paths in the morning. That's my rationalization, and I'm sticking to it. This weekend is the fabulous Festival for the Eno again. I'm going on Sunday, so I can listen to Jonathan Byrd. He's playing all over the country these days, so I try to go see him when he's nearby. The weather during the Festival is traditionally hotter than the blue blazes of hell, and in fact, the forecast is for a high of 90F. The park is down in a low place, so there's no air circulation at all. Ugh. Oh well, life's tough. There are tons of booths and stages and things to see, do, and eat at the Festival. I can even go cool off in the river, if it comes to that. For the Fourth of July, the Army puts on a giant fireworks show about four blocks from my house. I'll just sling a folding chair over my shoulder, and stroll over when it starts to get dark. Thanks, Army. (Have I mentioned that I love living on post?)
