So I came home today to a seriously needy kitty (meOW!) and some mail, including two package notices. On the front porch was a box, which looked as if it had been kicked here from Afghanistan. Fortunately, it contained a metal urn, and was unscathed. I went to the post office and picked up three boxes from David. When I got home, the postman rang (once) and gave me two more boxes from David. One of those boxes was my Christmas present, hurrah!, and the rest were (wait for it) swords. That's my man.

The heat was off when I got home, so I called the management people. The thermostat's batteries were dead, as it happened, so it was an easy fix. Once those were replaced, shazaam! heat.

The rest of the day was mostly spent on the couch with a cat on my lap, demanding attention. She spent four days alone, with only a daily visit from a friend who filled her bowl. She doesn't like being left alone, at all. I have to give her a certain amount of attention every day, lest I smell her wrath (damn creature), so when I'm gone, I have some catching up to do.

There was no way I could take her to mom's, though, with Nigel the 9 month old Lab on hand. Nigel is a very sweet and well behaved puppy, but he's still a puppy. There was a lot of lunging, wanting to taste or chew everything in sight, and tearing around when so inspired. The weather was very rainy and nasty, so he didn't get as much exercise as he usually does, and that didn't help. However, he and Dolly got along famously, and they tussled and grrred and wore each other out. He sure wore Dolly out, anyway. She enjoyed playing with him, and I enjoyed watching (and guarding the Christmas tree).
