So, there's an SCA event next Saturday, Twelfth Night. There's no fighting associated with it - it's primarily an arts & sciences competition, with lots of vendors and big yummy feast. I sent in my reservations last month.

I decided to make a new dress for the occasion. I had this cool pattern, and bought some fabric specifically for it. The pattern gives, let's say, minimal instruction. The fabric is velveteen, and the lining is satin. Neither one of those fabrics was fun to work with, but the two together? The devil's work.

Then, for the crowning glory, I found I can't turn it right side out. The explanation is too long to write and probably impossible for me to describe. Suffice it to say that I've sent a pleading email to the perpetrators of this pattern, as well as another to a vendor on the off chance that I can get one made and mailed in 5 days.

Having taken a fourth and fifth look at the blasted garment, I think if all else fails I can take out the shoulder seams, turn it right side out, then slip stitch the seams back together (cursing all the while, I assure you).

(The squeamish should skip this next paragraph.)

You know the best part about being female? The best part is that, no matter when an event of any kind is scheduled, no matter how far out I made my reservations, I am guaranteed to be menstruating. I'm not sure how the world always works out this way, but it does.

(Okay, sensitive souls, it's safe to read again)

Other than that particular clusterfuck, the day has been good. I took the dog out for a nice long walk. I got some errands done for David. I had a lot of sushi for lunch. I got to stretch out on the couch with the cat in my lap while I read for an hour or two. A lovely day, interrupted by a whole lot of cussing.

I was recently reminded that happiness is an attitude, not an event, and so I'm trying to find the good in things. Progress, not perfection. Sigh.
